Week 39
Barry's birthday was this week - Google sends me photos now and then - this one was 14 years ago when we celebrated his birthday in Stuttgart. We were there for the World Cycling Championships.
And Alexander and Paul had their birthdays as well - as life just keeps rolling along...
Around the Farm
My volunteer helper had a week off, so I didn't do much
For our Hallmark of Quality we have a periodic inspection of just about everything. Paperwork has become the main focus for some reason - privacy, client records and so on.
We also need a certified inspection of our electrics. The last one was pre-Covid and it has taken us a while to address the (mostly minor) items in the report.
Most of it was my fault in using power boards to get things going. We had to put a new power point in for the dishwasher and sort out the fanciful daisy-chain array for my power tools in the workshop.
The report was done by a company from Drachten and our work to remedy it will be inspected by our local company from Wijnjewoude. They will also attend to anything we can't fix ourselves.
One of the items is the collection of cables for the computer in the work area - of course, it looks like spaghetti, but I'm not sure how to remedy that. The report says it looks like a household setup (which it is), but should be more business-like...we're waiting to hear what our local experts recommend!
Doing away with the power board...
One of our clients had a cold, but we couldn't send him home because his guardians weren't there. They preferred him to stay with us! But things are very different in these Covid days - a cold is not "just a cold" anymore! They had him tested for Covid and Janny went off for a test as well. All good, but it does illustrate how we have to remain alert.
In the Netherlands, daily positive tests are running at about 1500 per day, but things are fairly open due to the 80% vaccination rate. We had to show our QR Codes in order to eat at the Hema (a bit like Coles' cafeteria).
Roof repairs
The roof repairs are still hanging over our heads (pun intended) and are planned to start in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, the moisture/condensation continues in one of the apartments...
We hired a moisture "extractor" and in just 3 days it had pulled 13 litres of water out of the air in the apartment! We will probably end up buying one, but first we want to test it in our own house and in the work area out the back. It may well be that everywhere is simply damp (it is a wet country, after all), and better ventilation and insulation are required. Hopefully, the new insulated roofing will help. We never had the problem before the new roof. Again, we shall see...
Not BS. Always interesting. 👍
