Week 36
Not much... but busy
I had to arrange for a new water pump for the boat motor. Our boat Mr. Fixit spotted it straight away and I asked him to do a couple of other jobs while he was at it.
The problem (a small leak)
Back to work...
It seems to have taken the whole week to measure, make and paint just one window frame - and we're not done yet. I have to paint it again today, so that we can hopefully place it tomorrow.
and in the meantime...
Janny continued cleaning out the unit of our client, trying hard to keep calm - it seemed very stressful for some reason - she was probably blaming herself for letting it go on for so long. We have now resoloved to do it every month if required. There is a component of our payment that could come under "individual care" - this should be increased if we can manage it. Janny has good contacts within "the system" and they mostly know of the circumstances, so it shouldn't be a problem.
In the end, just two trailer loads for the tip - and one full container....
To the boat...?
We were both emotionally and physically drained by Thursday evening, so we decided to escape to the boat and trust the personnel with the Weekend Kids - but....one of the workers rang to say that one of her schoolkids had Covid and so she had to go into quarantine until she was tested! So Janny had to work in her stead.
So, I popped down to the boat on my own to check out the work...I had an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge installed to keep an eye on things before they happen - just have to get used to the normal indications. The existing indication lights (grey rectangle under the tacho) work when there is a problem, not before.
Ben is in Milan again...managing to get a bit of modelling work but also able to keep up with his freelance work via the computer (working from "home"). Could be there for a month...
He's very much a traveller...and manages quite OK on his own. I find myself thinking about travelling in the boat on my own - but it would be so much more enjoyable if we could do it together. But, now that I'm "nearly 80" ( a standing joke), perhaps I'd better think more seriously about it...
Boeke...
He makes himself at home with our weekday clients - he doesn't yet know the days of the week, so he also wants to go out there on non-work days!

G'day Ken, I have been meaning to ask, have you always been "handy" or is it something you picked up along the way? I obviously know about the "Jack of all trades" reputation of Firies. What did you do before the Fire Service?
