Week 12
Why the Dutch are the tallest people in the world.
(I couldn't figure out how to embed the video link without breaking BBC rules - but I'm sure it is searchable if anyone is interested)
Janny likes to add "and the Frisians are even taller - because they kept the invaders out"!
I don't know how true that is - but it makes a good story...
Around the farm
I had my first vaccination (Pfizer) very early on Monday morning. Janny had hers (astrazeneca) on Wednesday afternoon. Both were requested earlier in the planning because of our contact with clients.
The improving weather really does make such a difference - and we've had to put up with the Covid restrictions, so it is very enjoyable to be able to do stuff outside.
On Monday, we had our regular "group meeting" with everyone (the day clients) to discuss their needs or wishes - "Everyone IS happy, aren't you!"
Actually, everyone is fairly content with our routine and because there aren't too many we are able to observe the distancing and masking rules reasonably well. I get growled at the most by Janny because I usually end up doing things with my two workers...and my glasses fog up when I have the mask on!
The idea of a vegie garden for everyone gained the most enthusiasm - so we started the planning...
Last year (or 2019??) I had to make some temporary shelters for firewood as the hayshed was full. I have decided to make them permanent now, without too much trouble - I just need angle iron and poles and no need to go shopping yet. I did a few of them during the week, but I found that I needed help getting the sheets off - they seem to have become heavier in the interim...
This one with a kindling box...
Meanwhile, my helpers started emptying the hayshed and burning the worm-ridden wood as necessary.
The remaining good timber and pallets will form the basis of our "everybody-in-vegetable-patch" -
There was a fair bit of useable timber in the hayshed - it needed to be cleaned out anyway. We have Grand Designs for a new roof and maybe, just maybe, a nice outdoor kitchen/sitting area.
We also need a few trips to the tip and a new storage area for the skelters...
Planning the garden. Apart from my pumpkin patch, most of the rest will be in raised boxes so that it is easier for the clients.
...and walking, walking...
One of the Brain Facts (I have to watch how I spell that) said that research has shown that habits can form after 16 to 448 times/repetitions - with the average being about 66. My new habit finds me waking at 0630hrs and walking before I do anything else. Boeke thought it was too early in the beginning but he is now also getting out of bed early...as is Janny!
I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but I often think of the billboard that Barry and I saw in South Melbourne - "Old Age Catching Up? - Walk Faster" - from the National Health Foundation.
Another favorite of Barry's was "Mick Burns - Briquettes" at a firewood supplier in Richmond.
Funny how some things just stick.
Spot the deer....on the new mound at the back of our place.
Ben heads off to Madrid today - he nearly missed the fact that Daylight Saving started this morning!
Covid News
A press conference during the week kept everything the same, at least until 25th of April.
Except for the Curfew hours - with the start of Daylight Saving, the curfew now starts at 2200hrs instead of 2100hrs.
Election News
As expected, Rutte remains Prime Minister - they are now sorting out the numbers for a coalition. The major groups have all said they won't have anything to do with the extreme right - a couple of which won quite a few seats.
Boat News
I have booked the boat to go go back in on Tuesday. As usual, better weather is expected... "next week"...
The last thing I needed to arrange was the Marrekrite flag - paying for the maintenance of thousands of mooring sites in Friesland.

Bags of firewood??? Did you have to buy them like that?
